“Black Tie Optional” Defined

There seems to be some bit of confusion about wedding attire. I think our last little facetious post about the top hat and cane made people worried that it’s black tie required. We’re going black tie optional. What does that mean?

Here’s a friendly explanation we found:

bondtux.jpgIf you have been invited to a “Black Tie Optional” affair, you are not required to wear a tuxedo. . However, chances are there will be more guests wearing tuxedos than regular suits at the event. If you do opt to wear a suit, be sure to wear a dark suit with a black tie. If your date is wearing an evening gown, then you have wear a tuxedo. Don’t worry, you will not stick out like a sore thumb. It is impossible to be overdressed at these types of events.

For women, it’s even easier:

Your date can only choose a tux or a dark suit, but your black-tie options are limitless. Whether you choose satin or beads, a dress or a long skirt and top, remember that black-tie optional means dressy.

Joseph may be in white tie, but that’s because he’s the groom…and a secret agent.
